5 month birthday!

For anyone who reads the Jankowski blog and our blog, it is imperative to note that our twins are exactly one month apart to the day! That is why our birthday/monthly posts are on the same day!!!

Also, yesterday it was in the 70's and very windy. Very warm. Last night was tornadoes and high winds and in the 40's. Today it is snowing and we are to expect 1-3 inches by the end of the day. Yesterday I wore a thin dress and bare legs. Today, I am wearing sweatpants, my long sleeve Red Sox shirt, and my Wicked Good LL Bean slippers. Plus the heat is on and the space heater is on in the living room.

Q is eating like a champ. And now he sleeps like one too. He has slept in his crib all night, every night for at least a week now (I think) 9 pm to 8 am last night. I heard him this morning and I went in and he was happily just lying there awake and smiley.
E was in bed with me from 1 am on. He is still runny nose, coughy, and stuffy. So, I am letting it slide. Plus, when he sleeps with me he puts his hand on my face and pulls me close to him. It's hard to resist.
Here are some developmental milestones. For the things they can't do yet, I am sure they will before the end of the month!

By 5 months your baby SHOULD be able to...
*hold head steady when upright- both absolutely
*on stomach raise chest supported by arms- both but not really using the arms as much as they could
*pay attention to objects as small as a raisin- both
*squeal in delight- AHH!!! That's E's new fave thing! Morning, noon, and night! Over and over!
*reach for an object- both
*smile spontaneously- both
*smile when you smile- definitely both!
*grasp a rattle- both
*keep head level with body when pulled up- both
will PROBABLY be able to.....
*roll over one way- both, although E doesn't find it necessary most of the time
*bear some weight on legs- both
*say "ah-goo"- both
*razz- both- and E just started doing this all the time- between squeals!
*turn in the direction of a voice- both, if I say their name they look at me too.
may POSSIBLE be able to....
*sit unassisted- neither
MAY even be able to...
*pull up to standing from sitting- by themselves? or when I pull them up??
*stand holding on to something or someone- neither and nowhere near that!
*object if you try to take a toy away- both, including the pacifier!
*work to get a toy out of reach- both, today I watched Q lose his pacifier, and move and squirm, and push his blankie out of the way, to get to it. He picked it up and brought it to his mouth. Then, he couldn't get it in. He isn't that good!!!!!
*pass a cube or object from hand to hand- I think they can do this...I haven't noticed this one
*look for dropped object- both, see story above
*babble- E squeals (repeatedly for 30-40 min at his brother) and screams and makes ohhhhs and ahhs, etc. Q sounds like he is speaking a language I don't know to his brother. Sometimes E listens, sometimes he looks the other way and acts like he can't hear him..... he does go on and on!!!(like his mom!)

some other notable things.....
Q is the nosiest baby I have ever seen. Q is in everyone's business when we are out and you don't have to be in his line of sight at all...he will turn his entire body and neck around to not miss something. He gets this from me. No doubt.
E tried to mack on his twin friend Abigail last week....he had his arm kinda around her and was turned towards her talking to her. Q tried to get in on the action.
Q rolls both ways now. From his back to stomach and then from his stomach back to his back. He is on the move! But he hasn't taken off rolling all over the place. He stays in the area of play on the floor. E rolls when no one is looking. I will put him on stomach and look and he is on his back. I never see it.
They both always hold hands. On purpose. They like to be touching. If one is crying and the other is nearby, that one will reach out for their brother. It is SO darn cute. Too bad they couldn't tell them not to cry!

(no subject)

I am so ready for my cold to be over.....Ean has a runny nose again and is still coughing- mostly at night and in the morning. Kinda like me! I tell him every time he coughs and whimpers, "I know, buddy. It hurts!" This cough is horrible- it does really hurt- it feels like my lungs are tearing!
The boys are eating solids regularly at night now. My MIL is sending me a food processor (THANKS!!) and I am going to start making their food. I am a little on the obsessed side with what goes into them. (I am really weird, I know. Soon they will be eating french fries and I will be wondering what happened!) The boys have tried organic sweet potatoes, carrots, and peas. Below I will post E eating sweet potatoes for the first time. By first time, I mean actually eating, which he has now caught on to. I am thinking about giving them rice cereal in the morning. The doc said after they start eating regularly at night- to then move on to breakfast and dinner.
Naps are a complete joke here. I don't know what to do. And frankly, I am sick of researching and reading what to do. (SHOCKER I KNOW!) This is because I personally do not believe in listening to them wail. At night, if I had done that to get them to sleep (cry it out, ferberize) they would never have slept! All they needed is for me to go in there and touch them or mostly replace their pacifiers. They needed something! Listening to them cry wouldn't have solved their problem. The boys are sleeping wonderfully at night! Almost 5 months and they sleep about 10-12 hours a night. They have only ever fussed at night. They have either worked it out with a little fussing or if it got louder I would go in and see them. They have never really "cried" If they ever really did I would pick them up and bring them to bed with me and then replace them in the crib later. This worked and gave me SLEEP!
As for naps, they do wail! I don't know what the difference is. At the first sign of fatigue, yawning or droopy eyes, I pick them up and bring them to the nursery. They awaken as soon as I leave the room and scream. This has NEVER happened at night. They have fallen asleep after some fighting every time, but they sleep for 20-30 minutes. EVERY baby I have ever known takes 1-2 hour naps twice a day. Not my babies. I will say if when sleepy, I move them to their swings, they will nap in them for 1-2 hours. And I have done that a few times this week. That is basically all we use their swings for anymore. It will work out.....
Q is still rolling on to his stomach and then crying in frustration. E rolls the opposite way but only does it when he feels like it. E is on the floor laughing hysterically at something- oddly enough there is nothing around him! (he is turned staring at his bumbo close up)

E with his frog blanket. Q has a lion one- they LOVE them!

Rollin......

Last night, Ean rolled! From his stomach to his back. (oddly enough, the opposite of how Quinn first did it) But the story gets better! (or worse, depending on how you look at it) I went to a meeting about starting a women's weekly bible study at Starbucks last night. I was 5 minutes down the road, when CQ called to tell me that he had rolled. I could barely believe it! I am with them 24 hrs a day! I leave and Ean rolls! I was very sad. I still have not seen him do it. Although I watched it on video! (insert sarcasm here) He looks so cute doing it!
Truthfully, I am glad that CQ got to share that with him last night. He doesn't really get alone time with them.
Well, now he will since I will be attending this study weekly for 10 weeks. It sounds like it is going to be great- I am really excited about it.

This is how the boys fell asleep the other night!

For the people who don't know, this is Chris' sister's boys with our boys at Thanksgiving. It was their first time together. The oldest is Jarron and Bryce is the younger of the two.

This is Christmas Day at home in Florida. My boys are tired!
(I just got these photos sent to me.)
Gotta run....battery on my Mac just ran out!
